Acne


Acne is most bothersome skin ailment of teenagers. Adults may also complain of acne. Acne or pimples mostly develops due to hormonal changes. This may occur at puberty in male and female or during pregnancy in females. Sometimes genetic factors are responsible for acne. Due to hormonal changes there is an increase in oil production by oil glands in the skin. This excess oil and dead cells blocks hair follicle, it’s called as comedone. Inflammation develops in this blocked follicle due to bacterial activities. This results in acne, pimples or cysts.

When this comedone is closed it is called as whitehead and when it is open it is called as blackhead. Blackheads are not usually inflamed, it contains dark colored dead cell debris whereas whiteheads are inflamed due to bacterial activities.
