  • Causes

The sensitivity of migraine patients is possibly due to dysfunction of monoaminergic sensory control systems. This is located in the brainstem and thalamus, dysfunction of this sensory control system causes abnormal sensory sensitivity in person which causes discomfort or pain to the eyes, aversion to loud sounds and nausea. Serotonin may cause migraine headache. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter and hormone in the brain involved in the regulation of sleep, mood and pain.
